| The format the GIS data comes in requires special viewers that your computer
may not currently have. The aerial photos only come in .tiff files which can be viewed by Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, which is already installed on your computer.
Contours can come in two different formats. These formats are .shp (ESRI file type) or .dwg (CAD file type). When ordering you have a choice of which format you would like.
Parcels only come in .shp files. Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer can NOT open .shp or .dwg files and can NOT be overlaid on the aerials unless using a special program.
The two most popular programs to view .shp files and .tiff files overlaid are ArcExplorer or AccuGlobe.
|
| ArcExplorer 9.3 |
This is an ESRI product that allows overlaying layers including .shp files and .tiff files. Fairly easy installation. They lay everything out and how to add layers to the viewer. |
| AccuGlobe 2007 |
AccuGlobe requires you to register which is free, before you download there free viewer. The viewer is laid out very well and is easy to use. Also allows for overlaying .shp and .tiff files. |
| Informative Graphics |
Has two products of interest. One viewer is for .tiff files and the other is for .dwg files. These can NOT be overlaid however, it is a free CAD file viewer. |
